Since joining the board of the Living to Serve Foundation in November 2022, Carmisha Turner has played a vital supportive role, facilitating the foundation's mission through event preparation, promotion, and encouragement. With a heartfelt connection to the cause, rooted in personal experiences of family members battling cancer, Carmisha is deeply committed to enhancing health awareness and access to critical resources. This commitment is reflected in the foundation's proactive approach to education and prevention, including vital services like mammograms, which Carmisha champions as essential to community wellness.
Carmisha brings a wealth of experience and resources to the board, including previous roles on the Lupus Foundation board and currently on the Center for Prevention-Human Trafficking board. Professionally, as the Undersheriff-Correctional Superintendent of the Peoria County Sheriff's Office, Carmisha leverages this position to extend the foundation’s reach into the jail system, providing female detainees with necessary health resources and hope. Through initiatives like the annual health fair, Carmisha ensures that these women are not only cared for while incarcerated but also empowered with knowledge and support for their reintegration into society.
